	Education is the backbone of a nation. The significance of the value of education is well recognized in the Sri Lankan Education system. The Education Services Unit of the Ministry of Education is responsible for providing the system with necessary infrastructure facilities and the supply of textbooks and equipment to facilitate the process of Education.
	The Ministry of Education is entrusted with the massive responsibility of gifting a future generation endowed with wisdom and virtues to the nation. In the process of molding citizens embedded with independent thinking required for uplifting the whole nation and for overcoming the challenges of 21st century, Ministry of Education plays a vitalrole in implementing National Educational policies maintaining equity and quality.

	About Department of Education
	The Northen Provincial Education Department is responsible for carrying out the functions of education devolved to the provincial council under the 13th amendment of the Constitution. The provincial Minister in charge of the subject is the executive authority for education with in the province. Education functions are implemented by the Provincial Department of Education headed by the Provincial Director of Education with the Zonal Education Offices and Divisional Education Offices.
	The Ministry of Education in keeping with this policy has established a web-site which will contain all the information that the public as well as those interested in educational research require, so that anybodycould access this information easily. The ministry will keep this web-site up-dated regularly so that the Latest information will be available to the general public.
